Why I decided to knit the Bramble Ridge Hat
The Bramble Ridge Hat knitting process all started because my son and daughter went to a yarn store with my husband. The kiddos (and my Husband) had gone there to go Christmas Shopping (for me!) and while there, they ended up each picking out some yarn that they wanted to make a hat out of.
My daughter brought back the light pink Cascade 220 that she loved. I had wanted to make this pattern when I saw it on the Cozy Up Knits Podcast and I thought that now was a good time. I purchased it and cast it on pretty quickly, and the whole hat was a relatively easy knit.
Yarn Weight Changes
The pattern calls for fingering and DK weight yarn held together, but I’m using worsted and DK. Using different weight yarn probably messed with my gauge, but it’s a hat, and as long as it fit someone, I was okay with that. Holding two different shades of pink together caused a marled effect that I wasn’t sure that I liked to begin with, but it started to grow on me by the time I was done. My daughter loves it though, especially the pink and (even more especially) the blue and pink pompom on the top.
The hat took about a day if I had worked on it without interruptions. However, I had plenty of interruptions on and off throughout the weekend. The pattern was enjoyable and easy to follow. I really like using the Cozy Up Knits Design patterns because of this. There wasn’t anything that I would consider tricky, and I would bet that a beginner knitter could follow it pretty easy as a first (or second) hat.
