If I find a pattern that I enjoy. One that is easy to wear or that my children wear nonstop, I will remake it. This design is one of those patterns. I knew it was a hit because my daughter asked probably about 100 times if I would make her a larger-sized pink cardigan.
The first Sunspot that I made her was shorter and almost a shrug. I had only had one skein of yarn and trying to make do. Yarn can get expensive, and I often only have one skein. Usually, this means modifying a pattern or mixing skeins, and I didn’t want to add a different color when my daughter was so set on pink.
I loved knitting this second version just as much as the first, but not only that – the yarn is so soft. I love the selfie silk from Junkyarn. The kiddo has barely taken this item off since I’ve completed it, and it’s holding up to the rigor of a seven-year-old.
I appreciate the construction of this cardigan. You do some basic raglan increases, with cables coming down the front. I will not go into too much detail, but I appreciate how it works and how it looks at the finish. Anything knit with minimal seams is A+ in my book. The pattern has options for a full skirt to the cardigan or a more fitted one. The designer also gives instructions on how to replace the cable with one that the knitter prefers instead.
If there isn’t a little one in your life to knit this pattern for, there is an adult version of the cardigan called Poetry in Motion. I have never made it because it lacks pockets. However, if it’s anything like the smaller version, it would be a joy to knit with an easily memorizable lace pattern that isn’t too tricky.
